Meeting Network Needs
ANT was created to provide the ultimate in flexibility to product manufacturers for not only the creation of wirelessly enabled devices but also in the establishment of wireless communication networks over which the wireless products interact. Using ANT, companies are also able to choose from a variety of different network configuration types that can address their needs for interoperability, business development, and privacy. ANT offers Open, Managed, and Private networking and each type is individually defined by a unique ANT Network Key - a 64 bit key that is assigned and administered by ANT.
ANT PUBLIC Network:
The ANT open network is available to all ANT Developers and is free to use. The network key is a null string which is the default setting for ANT chips, chipsets and modules. There are no assessed fees or administration of this network. It is used for product development, prototyping and demonstration.
ANT MANAGED Networks:
The ANT Managed Network type is a category of ANT Networks administered by ANT for the participating members. The administration of these networks is mandated to ensure that each participant of the network cooperates beneficially with all other participants on the specific Managed Network. Through the management of critical fields in the ANT protocol, ANT managed Networks ensure delivery of a level of security and integrity to each of its participants. ANT Managed Networks are formally defined by an ANT Network Key. ANT+ (transitioned from ANT+Sport to encompass other relevant sectors) is one such example of an ANT Managed Network.
