I am a Web Developer and am trying to find a way to get data off off ANT+ devices (specifically spin bikes) using PHP or other server architecture.

I am also looking into figuring out how to build a C app to do this as well, but not sure where to start. The development process on this site says that it starts by buying 2 ANT+ USB devices, yet I cannot discern why I need 2?      

If you have a spin bike to transmit the data then you could get away with just one ANTUSB to use as the receiver. However you will probably find it helpful to compare against simulated data, and then you'll need two USB sticks - one to transmit and one to receive.
