Bursting while receiving Heart Rate

We are working on a device that we want to burst data while also receiving heart rate. We have set up some tests and are bursting 8 packets at a 5Hz rate. What we have seen is a bunch of collision errors. Id we have the heart rate channel turned off then we still drop some packets but we receive about 92% of the burst transmissions. The burst and heart rate are seperate channels and we are just using the public ANT network for the burst transmissions.

If the burst is setup to transmit at the start of the next period, is the radio able to receive heart rate on another channel or is the radio locked into the burst transmission? For example if we send over 8 packets to be buffered for bursting, the burst transmission will not go out over the air to the next period, can the radio still receive heart rate data between the time the 8 packets are sent, to the time the radio actually transmits those packets?

Hello,

First, please note that channel collisions are completely normal and expected, especially when you use burst data. Burst data seizes the whole radio from other channels.

To minimize channel collisions, I suggest you ensure your HRM channel is set to low priority search. If the HRM search is left as the default high priority search, it will seize control of the entire radio from all other open channels when it is opened. This could be the reason why your successful burst rate drops so low when the HRM channel is opened.

I hope this helps,

Kassandra
