The SDK refers to Activity and Session, whats the difference between the two?
I understand that an activity consists of multiple sessions that in turn consists of multiple laps, but
in what scenario is multiple sessions generated?
My first interpretation was that an activity was the complete recording and if the user paused the recording for a moment then there would be multiple sessions, but this doesn't seem to happen the the Edge500 at least.      

The Edge500 does not create multi-session activities.

These are typically generated by multi-sport devices that let you switch sport during recording, e.g. for a duathlon or triathlon. Examples are Garmin FR601, 910XT. Then you'll have one activity covering your triathlon with typically 5 session for the 3 legs and the 2 changes.
