I understand that there is a field available for the manufacturer ID that is defined in the profile.xls file in the fitSDK and there is a garmin_product field as well that defines the different Garmin products.

Is there a field available for products other than Garmin to identify their specific product? I know popular websites that people upload fit files to will display the manufacturer and device name that the fit file was created on so I am wondering how this is accomplished on devices that are not made by Garmin.

     

The product field shall hold a product id (which is manufacturer specific - so only the tuple <manufacturer, product> will be unique).
The "garmin_product" enum lists Garmin's product ids.
Other manufacturers can and will have their own values that are however not part of the SDK files.
