How typography influences trust in official-looking documents

Hi all! So, I’m working on some mock certificates for an online course and realized font choice really changes how legit the document feels. I tested a serif font versus a clean sans-serif, and the serif one definitely felt more “official.” But is that always the rule? What other typographic tricks or pairing tips help ramp up trustworthiness in these kinds of layouts?

Totally get that—typography can make or break the vibe. I recently needed to create a batch of ID-style event badges and started with a template I found dl template free. It came with default fonts, but I swapped in a classic serif for headings and a monospaced typeface for details like ID numbers. The contrast made it feel both elegant and precise. Also, playing with letter spacing and line height helped improve readability, which in turn boosts trust. Small touches like consistent alignment and avoiding overly decorative fonts go a long way in making a document look professional.

Interesting thread! I never realized typography had such an impact on trust. I usually just pick whatever font looks nice. Learning about serif versus sans differences might help me choose better for my own DIY templates. Thanks for sharing!
