ANT Channel Periods longer than 2 seconds

Hello

I am wondering if it would be possible to set the channel periods longer than 2 seconds without simply closing and reopening the channel (we're interested in a low power application that doesn't require 0.5 Hz worth of transmissions)

Hi!

No this can't be done, as the devices would lose synchronization if the channel period was set too long.

An alternative solution is to use an intermittent transmission scheme - opening & closing the channel at predefined intervals e.g. 5 minutes. Synchronization can be maintained based on timing details transmitted as part of the beacon

What kind of timescale did you have in mind?

Hi

We were looking 4~10 seconds probably. Given our application, we don't think turning on/off the device is preferable, just a longer transmit period.

Thanks for the answer!

Hi again, cchockidg,

Another option that might be good for you is the asynchronous transmission channel feature that will be available on the new nRF51 series (preliminary info here: http://www.thisisant.com/developer/resources/tech-bulletin/new-nrf51-and-antusb-m-features/). Of course this only helps if you only need extra low power on one side of the link.

The current draw figures are available here: http://www.thisisant.com/developer/components/nrf51422 under the "specification" tab.

Happy new year!
