What are the legal and safe alternatives if, for example, you need temporary activation of Windows or Office - say, for a couple of months for a project? Are there any methods that do not violate the license agreement, but allow you to use the software for some time without purchasing a full license?      

If you need it temporarily and legally, Microsoft gives a trial period of up to 90 days, which can be extended with the slmgr /rearm command. There is an online version of Office, also free. Students often get licenses through their university. But kms-full is a bypass of the system, and there are no guarantees, so it is better to use only proven methods.
